“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
Luisa F. Madrid is a visionary cinematographer and first-generation Peruvian/Colombian-American filmmaker whose work lives at the intersection of intimacy and impact. With a deep reverence for the emotional truth of storytelling, she shapes each frame with a painter’s eye and a storyteller’s heart—bringing bold, visually poetic language to the screen.
Her work on King of Games captured both critical and cinematic attention, premiering at the Austin Film Festival with a nomination for the Enderby Entertainment Filmmaking Fellowship, and earning her Best Cinematography at the Chelsea Film Festival in New York City. Her visual storytelling continues to resonate through films like All the Gaps—which premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Pan African Film Festival and aired on ASPIRETV—and Care Center: Promotores, a Planned Parenthood documentary that debuted at the Women’s International Film Festival in NYC.
A ZEISS & Women In Media Altitude Award winner, Luisa was honored at CineGear Expo for her distinctive artistry and bold visual storytelling—an affirmation of her ability to shape story through the language of light. She is also a fellow of the Warner Bros. Discovery Access x Food Network Behind the Lens Program, a two-time Made in NY grant recipient, and a NYWIFT Award honoree.
Luisa holds an MFA in Cinematography from CUNY’s Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, an MSW from Florida International University, and is an alum of the esteemed Eddie Adams Workshop, where she honed her photojournalistic eye and visual sensibility.
Whether capturing the quiet vulnerability of a character or the kinetic energy of movement and sound, Luisa brings a rich visual language to stories that matter. Her sets are defined by trust, curiosity, and collaboration—where ideas are nurtured, and images are sculpted with intention.

“Luisa’s wide shots are wonderfully composed, lit, and staged. The colors are beautiful, and woven into the shots like a tapestry, and they need no movement—the shots are like paintings. Very compelling work.” -Alan Caso, ASC
“Great use of color/tone/contrast and great framing compositions. Strong visual storytelling.” - Johanna Coelho
